New Delhi (Bureau), May 9: Tremors were felt in several parts of northern India, including Delhi-NCR, on Wednesday afternoon after an earthquake struck Tajikistan near the Afghan border, officials said.
The earthquake of magnitude 6.2 shook buildings in Afghanistan’s Kabul and was felt in Pakistani cities as well, Reuters reported.
The tremor hit at a depth of 96km (60 miles), about 67km (42 miles) south of the provincial capital of Khorugh, the United States Geological Survey said.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties.
Tremors were also felt in Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, where people rushed out of buildings, around 4:15pm, a MeT department official said.
Workers left buildings in Kabul, and the Pakistani media reported the quake was felt in capital Islamabad and the northwestern city of Peshawar.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
